Comments: Ultra-cheap plans often lack features like databases and usage statics and have other limitations which make them most suitable for personal and family web sites. If you just need to display pictures and text and don't need scripting and other fancy features, an ultra-cheap plan can get you on the web without the annoying ads you have to put up with on a free hosting site. The features offered with the above plans vary greatly, therefore you will need to carefully check and compare plans to find the one right for your needs.

Comments: In an effort to avoid arguments and complaints, most web hosting companies are fairly restrictive on questionable content -- to the point that some will terminate a site for displaying a picture of a classical (but bare breasted) statue from ancient Greece. Dreamhost not only has an excellent, cheap web hosting package (currently, Dreamhost has the second highest CWHR Rating) but is far more liberal than most web hosts on acceptable site content. Basically, if your content is legal in the US, Dreamhost will probably have no problems hosting it.

Comments: Easy CGI has earned the Windows Hosting spot again by upgrading its disk space and bandwidth offering to be more in line with the industry, by providing more ASP and .NET features (which are what people use Windows Hosting for), and by improving their customer service. Using Windows 2003 Server really puts Easy CGI at the forefront of low host windows hosts. Comments: Lunar Pages uses special technology to provide each account on a server with its own virtual server. You have your own Apache web server, your own email servers, your own database server, etc. These types of accounts can be more stable and provide better control, but -- just like dedicated servers -- are best used by Unix experts who understand the ins and outs of running servers. Note: the CWHR Rating is based mainly on reports from customers using Lunar Pages's regular shared hosting.

Comments: A dedicated server gives your site its own physical computer as a server. The upside is that you have full root access so you can install whatever software you want on it and have very few restrictions on scripts (even if they hog CPU time). The downside is that you have to maintain the system yourself. ServerPronto has some of the most affordable dedicated server prices we have seen (and they often have sales that cut the price of the setup fee), although there are many options that can increase the monthly price or the setup fee. Windows and Windows 2003 dedicated servers are also available at higher prices.
